TAKING the lead: Victory Christian School (VCS) in Jeffreys Bay will launch a new eLearning platform this month – taking learners and teachers to new heights in the use of education and technology.
All in the comfort and safety of their own homes.
The school’s new webpage and Learning Management System (LMS), available to learners from Grade R to Grade 7, is set to go live in the second week of July – eliminating the majority of the problems associated with online schooling.
VCS Principal, Gavin Thomson, says, “It is our vision to leap beyond home and online schooling, as well as hybrid models to a new world of connected and personalised eLearning.
“Teachers are on track to put intrigue, discovery and innovation into learning – and provide personal feedback to all online learners.”
The virtual school day will consist of a concentrated four-hour academic facilitation from 08:00 to 12:00. This will be followed by free-of-charge individual one-on-one consolidation sessions with a teacher.
“These sessions are available for both school-attending and online learners,” says Thomson. “Bookings in advance with the subject teachers are required.”
According to Thomson, the new programme will enable teachers to provide personal and timeous feedback on work completed to all online learners.
Central to this programme is the availability of ongoing progress reports that will enable parents to keep track of their child’s academic progress.
Thomson says, “Parents will have direct contact to their child’s teachers and principal. “There will also be an emotional support programme available through the school.”
Apart from the online lessons, there will be an activity programme of sports such as ball skills, obstacle course, athletics, tennis, soccer and cricket that will be available for both online learners and those attending school.
“With all lessons being available online, parents now have the freedom to take holidays mid-week or take advantage of the low-season rates that occur outside of the traditional school holiday periods,” says Thomson.
“We are aiming at creating a relaxed and stress-free learning environment within the protective bubble of guidelines on maintaining hygiene as set out by the Department of Basic Education.”
