Woodridge College and Preparatory School based in Thornhill
has announced the passing of one of their learners, Troy Schofield, following a
short illness.
Troy, a Grade 12 learner passed away on August 1 after being
admitted to hospital on July 30.
In a statement released by Woodridge, it said that
their entire school community was devastated by the tragic loss.
“Troy joined Woodridge as a boarder in Grade 10 and was
a fantastic sportsman and gifted adventure sports athlete who won several races
at school,” the statement said.
“He was a beloved member of our school who will be deeply
missed by teachers, coaches, staff and fellow learners, especially the Starck boarding
residents and house parents.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and
loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
The school said that counselling services will be
provided to any learner or staff who need support in coping with the loss.
College headmaster, Luke Hartley said, “This is an
extremely difficult time for our school community. We ask that everyone’s
privacy, especially that of the Schofield family, be respected as we all grieve
this tragic loss together.”
In the face of this tragic loss, a prayer service
paying tribute to Troy will be held at school on August 2.

communicated on the school’s social media pages as soon as they are available.
