The steel structure that housed the two yachts at Nexus Yachts in St Francis Bay collapsed due to the heat of the fire.

Kouga mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said that the cause of the fire is still unknown. “The building, which is a steel structure, collapsed due to the fire and heat. Two yachts were damaged during the fire,” he confirmed.

At approximately 13:30 this afternoon, the Disaster Volunteer Group in St Francis Bay, posted on social media that the fire, which started just before lunch time, had been contained fairly quickly after swift combined efforts by Kouga Fire Services, the DVG and Nexus Yachts staff.

“At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and the DVG has stood down. Nexus management summonsed Private Care Ambulance Services to assess any staff who may have smoke inhalation concern,” the DVG said.

“We are grateful that no one was injured during the incident,” Hendricks added.
