STUDENTS from the Robyn D’Arcy School of Dance excelled at the recent Friendly City Dance Festival held in Gqeberha.

The festival ran over two weeks, with the Robyn D’Arcy School of Dance presenting ballet dancers aged between four and 25.

The studio had exceptional feedback from three different adjudicators across the field from a jazz group dance, to some little ballerina stars and snowflakes, and some great contemporary dance awards.

The school’s students’ top achievements include Anica Coetzee (95%) winning the pre-junior championships and Sophie D’Arcy (92%) as runner-up. Their up-and-coming young male dancers, Ncedakele Meleni (92%) and Moses Nehemia (90%), also competed in the amateur section performing solos, and achieving double gold awards.

Tehilla Meyer achieved double golds (95%) for her classical solo, contemporary solo and bluebird variation from Sleeping Beauty, performed en pointe.

“Tehilla will also be competing in the Theatre Dance Association Ballet Repertoire Competition at Artscape Opera House in Cape Town. This is a prestigious competition where only the top ballerinas from around the country are eligible to dance,” said studio owner, Robyn D’Arcy. In total, the studio took home three silver medals, 11 gold and nine double gold, and the winner and runner-up to pre-junior ballet championship. – REPORTER
