YOUPSA to host Book Cover-A-Thon

YOUTH Potential South Africa (YOUPSA) in Hankey is looking for volunteers to help cover 670 books for their literacy programme that reaches hundreds of children in the Gamtoos Valley – all in celebration of Mandela Day on Thursday, July 18.

This non-profit organisation’s literacy programme provides reading opportunities – in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa – for young children, placing special emphasis on reading for pleasure.

“We need help to cover the books in our lending library collection so that they can last for a long time and be enjoyed by many children,” says YOUPSA Director Ray Schöne.

“It is hoped that with the help of volunteers we can cover at least 670 books on Mandela Day. Even if it is only a book or three per volunteer.”

Those not able to help cover books, can still assist the organisation by making monetary donations towards the literacy programme, donating children’s books or by giving a voucher from a bookshop.

The Book Cover-A-Thon will take place at the Gamtoos Irrigation Board Conference Hall in Patensie from 13:00 to 16:00 on Thursday, July 18.
